David Welch - The weakness in the whole ‘Immigration Reform’ debate is that it trivializes the question of border security. Democrats want ‘Immigration Reform’ now and border security later (and perhaps never based on prior experience). Republicans want border security to be part of an immigration reform package and want it to be implemented before actual citizenship can be granted to the now illegal immigrants. But they are willing to allow it to be phased in as long as it comes before citizenship. In fact both sides are focused on the problem of illegal immigrants from Mexico sneaking across the southern border of the U.S. and totally miss the biggest problem with our borders on both the south and the north.
That ‘biggest problem’ is National Security. Since 9/11 we have spent tens of billions of dollars to beef up airport security, particularly for International flights. It would now be difficult for a foreign terrorist to enter the country by airplane especially if they were carrying weapons. We have also experienced a tremendous invasion of our personal privacy, privacy guaranteed by our Constitution, in exchange for improved National Security. The Obama Administration is currently working very hard to prosecute a young man who had the audacity to be a whistleblower and expose the extensive and intrusive surveillance of American citizens. Obama’s justification is that our privacy rights must take a back seat to National Security.
To that I say BS! In fact the tens of billions of dollars spent and the invasion of personal privacy has done little to improve National Security. That is because we have two huge holes in National Security: The southern and northern borders of the United States. The mere fact that some 11 million illegal immigrants have been able to sneak across the southern border in recent years illustrates how big those holes are. If the Canadian economy was as poor as the Mexican economy there would be an additional 11 million illegal immigrants in the country, those being from Canada.
Imagine for a moment that you are a terrorist leader in the Middle East looking for a way to damage the United States. You would like to make people forget 9/11 by causing a dramatically larger terrorist attack. Would you try loading a bunch of terrorists on airplanes headed for the U.S.? Of course not, that path has been effectively blocked. Once you made a plan would you communicate it to agents and friends in the U.S. by telephone or the Internet? Of course not, communications with the U.S. are not to be trusted. The NSA can listen in on almost anything.
So what would you do?
If it was me I would mount an attack across the southern border. Getting suicide bombers, guns, and explosives into Mexico would be relatively easy. It is well known that Mexican police and military can be easily bribed. Once in Mexico it would be easy to sneak them across the border into the U.S. If 11 million illegal Mexicans can get across three or four hundred Middle East terrorists can also, even with packages of high explosives. After all the Mexican border crossers bring in huge amounts of illegal drugs!
I would sneak my three or four hundred terrorists across in mid-November, just before the Christmas shopping season. Then, once I had them in strategic locations across the U.S., I would pick one of the busiest shopping days of the year and plan a coordinated same time attack on shopping malls, major department stores and other places with huge congregations of people. Maybe even a few Churches and Synagogues could be hit, if the attack was to be on a Sunday.
I would use throw away burn phones and difficult codes to keep the plan hidden from the NSA which monitors the Internet, AT&T, Verizon, etc. Using those means of communications would have too much risk of being traced and discovered. The burn phones would be perfect for limited, coded messages setting the date and time but my terrorists would all have clear instructions on where to go and what to do before leaving for the U.S. to minimize communication needs.
On the designated day, we would detonate 300 to 400 bombs in these strategic locations using our loyal suicide bombers. The result would be tens of thousands of Americans killed and an unbelievable amount of damage to the American economy. The Obama Administration would be falling over backwards trying to find evidence of ‘domestic terrorists’ to avoid blaming Obama’s Muslim friends in the Middle East. And in the months and years following, the American government would add to the Homeland Security apparatus and take away even more of the rights of its citizens at a cost of billions of dollars and a further erosion of the American Constitution. Heck at that point they might even address the border issue, kind of closing the barn door after the horses are out. This would eventually lead to the complete bankruptcy of the American economy and the American ideal of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. The terrorists will have won the war!
Do you believe the above scenario is far fetched? Well I recently read a slightly different scenario in a book called “Infiltration” by Lee Dodson. It involves a planned terrorist attack against the American Homeland and also uses the porous southern border to launch the attack. “Infiltration” is an exciting and fast paced adventure story well worth the read. It is available on Amazon for a very low price. I highly recommend it. This was the book that inspired my serious concern over our exposure to a terrorist attack across our southern border and the reason behind this blog. If you read Mr. Dodson’s book you will certainly realize what a huge risk we face and demand that something be done about it IMMEDIATLY!
Border Security should be a primary issue among Democrats and Republicans and all talk of Immigration Reform should be set aside until both our borders, south and north, are secure!
