Yasser Abed Rabbo, one of only two authorized spokespeople, says Palestinians still in discussion with the US
Times of Israel - The Palestinian leadership has not yet decided to return to negotiations with Israel and will only do so if its basic demands are met, a senior PLO official said on Sunday.
Yasser Abed Rabbo, one of only two Palestinian officials authorized to comment on the negotiations with Israel (along with PA presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh), told Palestinian radio that the PA leadership was currently engaged in dialogue with the American administration, and would only announce the resumption of negotiations depending on the outcome of those talks.
A number of issues were still pending for talks between Israelis and Palestinians in Washington later in the week, during which a framework for negotiations would be created, he added. Read More
Israel Says PA Dropped Preconditions But Palestinians Say Talks Based on Pre-67 Lines
Negotiations are in Israel’s interest, Netanyahu says; ministers confirm pre-Oslo prisoners with blood on their hands to go free
Israeli ministers said the government had held firm to its insistence on there being no preconditions for resuming the negotiations, while Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas had given ground. According to the ministers, the talks would resume without Israel agreeing to a settlement freeze, without Israel agreeing to negotiations for a Palestinian state on the basis of the pre-1967 lines, and without there first being a release of longtime Palestinian prisoners. The official, quoted by AP, said Kerry’s letter also stipulated that both the Israelis and the Palestinians must refrain from taking any steps that would jeopardize the outcome of the talks. Thus, the unnamed official said, Israel is not to issue new tenders for West Bank settlements, while the Palestinians are to refrain from pursuing action against Israel at international organizations. Kerry's Plan: Israel Will Release Hundreds of Terrorists
Kerry has assured the PA that Israel will free some 350 terrorists in the coming months, says official.
Arutz Sheva - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s plan to get Israel and the Palestinian Authority talking again involves getting Israel to release hundreds of terrorist prisoners, a PA official said on Friday.
Ahmed Majdalani told the Associated Press that Kerry has assured PA leaders that Israel would gradually free some 350 terrorists in the coming months. The prisoners would include some 100 men that were arrested over terrorist attacks carried out before the 1993 Oslo Accords. Israel has refused to free these terrorists in the past because many of them carried out some of the deadliest attacks against Israelis. Read More
