Egypt has the right to use force to restore security: Presidency

A presidential spokesman told journalists that Egypt was battling terrorism

AhramOnline - Mostafa Hegazy, spokesman for Egypt’s interim president, stressed Saturday that authorities have the right to do what is needed to defend the country’s sovereignty, even by using firearms if necessary.

In a press conference held at the Ittihadiya presidential palace in Cairo and attended by a good number of Egyptian and foreign reporters, Hegazy conveyed the president’s message in both Arabic and English.

“All sovereign states have the right to use force to restore law and order,” he said.

The conference took place after several days of deadly clashes between security forces and supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi who was ousted last month.   Read More
